August Wilhelm

von Hofmann (April 8, 1818 in Giessen, di ed. May 5, 1892 in Berlin) - German chemist, discovered the react ion of amines named in his honor degradation (or rearrangement) H ofmann elimination Hofmann and Hofmann-Löffler reaction. At firs t he studied law and philology at Göttingen, since 1836 he studied chemistry at the Justus von Liebig, was his assistant, in 1843 promoted him and received his habilitation in 1845. He was an assistant professor of chemistry at the University of Bonn. In Liebigs command of English and at the request of Prince Albert received the same year job as a professor at the Royal School of Miners in London.
